Member in the spotlight: The Essonne Climate Energy Plan

In anticipation of the obligations proceeding from the "Grenelle de l’environnement" (French Environment Round Table), the Essonne County, member of Energy Cities since 2006, took the decision back in 2010 to proactively contribute to European efforts designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, by targeting a 25% reduction by 2020, which is more ambitious than the European Union’s initial target (-20%).
In order to achieve this target, the Essonne Conseil Général, as initiator, is keen to bring together all those operating in the region involved in combating global warming - local authorities, associations, companies, but first and foremost the inhabitants of Essonne
themselves.

The European Commission has chosen to support this approach as part of the European Life + program in favour of the environment, in the form of a grant of approximately €784,000 by 2013. The European Commission appreciated the desire to create an operation toolbox enabling an authority to combat climate change in its region.
