The core of the Energy Climate Plan in the Essonne, the CLIMATE Project aims towards 25% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2020.
This cross-sector project brought together departments of the General Council around 12 innovative projects in the area, linked by a common thread : the fight against climate change. Made possible by LIFE+ European financing, these departments that are sometimes distant in their missions, have cooperated to strengthen the general coherence of public policies pursued by the Department of the Essonne in reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. Whether in the areas of housing, mobility, economic activities or individual behaviour, Essonne experimented with many innovative tools and is making them now available to the European authorities, thus enabling local stakeholders and the general public to take concrete action at their own level to protect the climate.
