Our crowdinvesting campaign was a springboard for a first-of-its kind community energy in Croatia.

For this episode, we have met two very committed people from Croatia: Zoran and Lucia. Zoran Kordic works for ZEZ, green energy cooperative in Croatia. And Lucia Topic is spatial planner in the city of Krizevci which recently became a playground for crowdinvesting in renewables. They are drivers in spreading the “energy community virus” with solar roofs across their country. Hear the story about this collaboration between the city and a cooperative, especially around crowdinvesting in solar energy. Hear how, through joint efforts, they bring local answers to climate emergency and bring people closer together through activities in public space.

The green energy cooperative ZEZ wants renewables to become the new normal in Croatia. That’s why Zoran and his team help citizens, in close cooperation with interested local authorities, with the planning, development, management and financing of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency projects.

This episode of “City Stories” is brought to you by the EU project mPower. mPower explores how cities and citizens can manage the energy transition together – in a fair, clean and democratic way. Participation can happen at various stages: from involving citizens, local NGOs or businesses in the policy design to any stage of the energy value chain: for example as shareholders or even prosumers. The mPower project gets funding from the European Horizon 2020 programme.
