RePowerEU: The time has come to deploy the transition in territories.

Growing anger, depleted public services, deteriorating social benefits, increasingly limited purchasing power, battles over water and water sharing, and a persistent sense of not being listened to. The violence of it all is overwhelming – the violence of not having a voice in the decisions that directly affect us.

In the recently published book [1], economists Mariana Mazzucato and Rosie Collington describe how large consulting firms weaken and condescend to our governments, and how this phenomenon prevents the public sector from developing its own internal capabilities.

Our recent campaign “LocalStaff4Climate” says no less

It is urgent that we invest in the human strength of municipalities. The need to coordinate local climate neutrality strategies is immense, city as a whole needs to be rethought and the whole local economy needs to divest itself of energy costs and find affordable resources.

New European funds have been made available to member States

to reduce our energy dependence: this is the RePowerEU (we invite you to read our brief on the issue). To qualify, States must submit a list of measures, policies and programmes that meet this objective by the end of April. Whether it is a national programme to support local energy agencies (see our brief describing the agencies’ missions), or the funding of projects that are ready to be launched, cities have a multitude of specific needs in order to deploy the transition within the territories.

The time is now!
