Sebastián Oviedo joined Energy Cities in 2023 to manage projects focused on knowledge exchange for decarbonising cities and advancing socially just, circular economies.
An architect and urbanist by training, his background integrates research, teaching, design and project management, and has taken him beyond his home country Ecuador to live and work in Germany, Mexico, Belgium and the USA. Throughout his experience, he has focused on establishing and coordinating collaborations between civil society organizations, academic institutions, local governments, and non-profits.
Committed to social and environmental justice, his architectural practice has centred on the co-production of community infrastructure using natural materials and circular building methods. Simultaneously, he has worked on the design, renovation and energy upgrading of collective affordable housing. Through his postgraduate studies in Human Settlements and Urbanism, Landscape & Planning, he specialized on the intersections of the commons and urbanisation.
In his free time, he enjoys cycling and building things in wood.
