Verona is a historic city in Northern Italy with around 260.000 inhabitants and a metropolitan area of over 700.000 people. Alongside its cultural heritage, Verona is increasingly engaging in the ecological transition as a strategic priority for its future development.

Verona represents a context where the transition is not only an environmental necessity but also an opportunity to strengthen economic resilience and social cohesion, while addressing the complexity of an urban system with bith historical constraints and contemporary challenges.

Tommaso Ferrari is Deputy Mayor of Verona in charge of Ecological Transition, Environment, Mobility and Public Works. He holds a degree in Environmental Engineerng and previously worked as a strategic consultant in climate change and energy transition.

Cities are at the forefront of multiple and interconnected crises: climate change, social inequality, economic instability and a growing gap between instituions and citizens. These dynamics will increase the pressure on local governments, which must accelerate the ecological transition while ensuring social cohesion and eocnomic stability.
