Charleroi is a French-speaking city in Belgium, located in Wallonia.
Aware of the environmental challenges, the City of Charleroi joined the Covenant of Mayors in December 2016, thus joining a community of more than 6000 European authorities. It wants to actively participate in the fight against climate change and has set itself an ambitious objective: to reduce CO2 emissions on its territory by 40% by 2030.
To achieve this objective, the City of Charleroi has set up a Local Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). Developed on the basis of a global assessment of CO2 emissions in the municipality, this plan is a roadmap that materialises, in around fifty actions, the desire to play an active part in resolving the climate and energy challenges facing our planet.
