With a background in Environmental Engineering and a strong interest in the social aspects of the energy transition and bottom-up transformations, Maria joined Energy Cities in 2026 to manage projects that support cities in driving their energy transition and developing energy communities.
Before joining Energy Cities, she worked on climate and energy issues in a research institution and NGOs in Portugal and Brussels, where she cultivated her passion for advocating for social justice and democracy in the energy transition. A member of several cooperatives herself, Maria is driven by her belief that people's participation and community empowerment are crucial to creating a better place for everyone.
