Växjö is a medium sized municipality (almost 100,000 inhabitants) in south Sweden and is both urban and rural at the same time. Växjö is the home of the Linnaeus University.
Växjö is striving to become a fossil fuel free city by 2030, a goal that was adopted unanimously already in 1996. The CO2 emissions per capita has dropped by 67 % in 30 years to a level of 1,5 tons per capita.
All local energy production comes from renewable energy. Växjö is also famous for its focus on energy-efficient wooden buildings.

My name is Malin Lauber and l am 58 years old. I am the Mayor of the City of Växjö since 2023 and has been a member of the City Council for the Social Democratic party since 2010. Before taking a more active role in the local politics l was working as a teacher. I am currently part of the Energy Cities Board.
On the personal side, it makes me happy to spend time both in the nature and at the gym.

It is clear that municipalities tend to face more complex challenges as different crises are emerging. And I bel ieve that this will continue. Cooperation with other municipalities helps us stay stronger for rapid changes in the near future.
