What to expect at the event:

  • Nature-based urban solutions: Explore how cities are introducing local vegetation, creating climate shelters, and applying innovative business models and financing schemes to enhance resilience and biodiversity.
  • Sustainable mobility for liveable cities: Discover strategies like walkability, cycling infrastructure, e-mobility, and car sharing — all supported by inclusive financing models and scalable business cases.
  • Urban sustainability & citizen co-creation: Learn how cities are engaging residents in designing fair and green urban spaces, backed by participatory governance, business innovation, and new funding approaches.

Day 1 – Nea Smyrni & Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC)

On the first day, we will gather in the Nea Smyrni area and visit the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. The SNFCC is a modern architectural landmark designed by Renzo Piano, housing both the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera. Surrounded by a large Mediterranean park, the center showcases sustainable architecture and serves as a key example of integrating green spaces into urban environments. The surrounding area is a lively cultural destination, offering open-air spaces, sea views, and walking paths that reflect the principles of urban renaturalization.

Day 2 – Kifisia: Historical Center & Urban Nature

The second day takes us to Kifisia, where we’ll hold the main session and explore the historic center. We’ll also visit the Goulandris Natural History Museum and walk through the Kifisia Forest, a green space that incorporates community gardens and urban agriculture as part of the city’s renaturing strategy.

A travel and accommodation budget of up to €900 per city is available to support participation.
