Ioannis Georgizas

SUSTAINABLE CITY Network (SCN) is a civil, non-profit organisation founded in 2017 to support municipalities through networking, project management and access to EU funding. With 93 members, including 87 municipalities in Greece and Cyprus, alongside universities, foundations, institutes and regional bodies, SCN strengthens collaboration on sustainable development, environmental protection, the circular economy, climate action, energy efficiency and the energy transition. SCN provides technical support across the full funding cycle, from proposal development and submission to implementation.
Mr. Ioannis Georgizas is the General Manager of SCN, a physicist with an MSc in IT and an Executive MBA, with over 25 years of experience in sustainable development and project management. He has extensive expertise in ERDF and European programmes, including senior roles at the Management Organisation Unit of the Hellenic Ministry of Development.
Today, municipalities are expected to function as transition integrators, aligning climate action, energy systems, mobility, housing, social inclusion, and economic development into coherent, place-based strategies. This requires stronger cross-departmental coordination, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to translate political priorities into concrete, investable and measurable projects.
