A jury composed of experts in energy & climate issues and communication selected the picture submitted by the city of Brussels. The photo displays the ’Energy’ technicians of the municipality analysing the (energy ?) performance of the Manneken-Pis! “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it.”

Their creativity has allowed Brussels to win the 1st prize of the photo contest, which is a mural from an international urban artist.
Ahmed El Ktibi – Deputy Mayor in charge of energy, Arnaud Bastogne, Energy Manager of the municipality, and Evelyne Huytebroeck, Member of Brussels’ Parliament.
Brussels has been part of the Energy Cities network since 2011. Together with hundreds of European cities, the municipality is reconsidering the way it produces and uses energy, through smart urban planning, computerized monitoring of energy consumption and the involvement of all inhabitants and players of its area.
Deputy Mayor in charge of energy Ahmed El Ktibi (see picture on the right) declared: “I am very happy to receive this prize in the name of Brussels City and I want to stress the creativity and work achieved by the Energy department. I am impressed by the energy, as you need it there too, that the team puts everyday into chasing each and every unnecessary kilowatt-hour.” *
Mr El Ktibi added that the municipality had been able to save €500,000 in its budget thanks to energy efficiency measures!
