Local governanceThe EU Covenant of Mayors Ceremony 2026 will place local leadership at the heart of Europe’s climate and energy transition.
Under the theme “Local Leaders for Affordable Energy and Climate Resilience”, this year’s Ceremony will highlight the decisive role of cities and regions in responding to today’s pressing challenges – from energy price volatility and geopolitical uncertainty to increasing climate risks.
Cities and towns are at the forefront of this transition, turning European climate and energy ambitions into concrete action through local projects, investments and citizen engagement.
The event will provide a unique opportunity to hear directly from European Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Wopke Hoekstra, as well as exchange with other EU policymakers and fellow mayors from across Europe.
Beyond high-level dialogue, the programme will also feature focused workshops, peer-learning sessions, and dedicated networking spaces designed to support practical exchange and strengthen local capacity to act – from scaling up affordable clean energy solutions to advancing climate resilience on the ground.
