The Decarb Cities 2025 conference in Kraków Decarb delves into key themes such as decarbonising heating and cooling systems, with discussions on the role of renewable energy, innovative technologies like heat pumps, and national programs aimed at reducing carbon emissions. A key focus is on how cities, including Kraków, can transition from coal-based heating systems and integrate sustainable energy solutions to meet climate goals.

The conference brings together experts and professionals to discuss energy efficiency, renewable energy, and decarbonisation policies. The event will feature panel discussions, a World Café workshop, keynote speeches and interactive sessions addressing the challenges and solutions of urban decarbonisation. It is open policymakers, industry professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in sustainability and energy solutions scaled for cities. In addition to the conference, there will be a site visit to the National Archives, showcasing a geothermal heat pump system – an exciting example of sustainable energy in action.

Regional cooperation is another core topic, where cities share best practices and collaborate on projects to improve energy efficiency and achieve EU climate targets. The conference also explores the vital role of the EU in supporting cities’ decarbonisation efforts, focusing on funding, policies, and technical expertise to help urban areas reduce emissions. Practical sessions highlight the challenges and opportunities in financing the energy transition, underscoring the need for partnerships between public institutions, the private sector, and local communities. Additionally, the event features a visit to an innovative geothermal heat pump installation, showcasing cutting-edge technologies that are helping to drive urban decarbonisation forward.

Decarb Cities is organised by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) in collaboration with the Polish Organization for Heat Pump Technology (PORT PC) and the University of Science and Technology AGH, with support from the City of Kraków and the Polish Presidency of the European Council.
