If the EU is going to achieve its ambitious climate objectives, then we will need to massively increase our use of renewable forms of energy. One of the ways in which this can be achieved is by the establishment and proper management of renewable energy communities.
However, energy communities remain a relatively small part of the energy mix in the EU. Many potential communities complain of burdensome legislation and bureaucracy, as well as a lack of knowledge or experience on the part of ordinary households on their potential to take control of their own renewable energy future.
This half-day conference will bring together leading experts on energy communities from across the EU to discuss the next steps in upscaling and mainstreaming energy communities.
Co-organised by Housing Europe and the International Union of Property Owners (UIPI) as part of the EU project NRG2Peers, the event includes an opening address by MEP Markus Pieper (EPP, Germany), and Rapporteur on the amendment of the ‘Renewable Energy Directive’ (RED II).
It will also offer a networking opportunity for those involved and interested in energy communities. Thus, after two years of disruption, this in-person event is not to be missed.
