The overall objective of the E2-CUTIES project
Achieving the EU’s decarbonisation ambitions requires a transition to a distributed energy system with the participation of citizens. Local Energy Communities (LECs) are an effective means of doing this. LECs are organisations that bring together citizens, businesses and local authorities to collectively own and operate distributed energy resources and services.
The objective of E2-CUTIES is to empower six LECs – 1 in Dublin (IE), 1 in Leuven (BE), 3 in Utrecht (NL) and 1 in Strasbourg (FR) – to create integrated energy systems, thereby strengthening their role in the local energy transition.
Main outputs of the E2-CUTIES project
E2-CUTIES will elaborate one jointly developed Method to create LEC Investment propositions, including four toolboxes and a step-based roadmap, and two integrated energy system concepts will be tested in practice (in Leuven and Strasbourg). The outputs will be disseminated to LEC stakeholders throughout NWE through a capacity-building programme.
What is Energy Cities doing in E2-CUTIES?
Energy Cities is leading the communication activities and thus ensuring the communication and dissemination of the project’s results to broader target groups. Energy Cities will also contribute to the needs and opportunities assessment of Local Energy Communities, the development of the four toolboxes and the Joint Action Plan. Energy Cities will also lead the capacity-building activities, which will consist of developing and implementing a training scheme for LEC stakeholders.
