The European Climate Pact aims to engage citizens and communities in taking action for our climate and environment. The transition to a climate-neutral society is about people and their daily lives: the ways we produce, consume, move, heat or cool our houses, work and live together.
As part of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, European cities and towns take energy and climate action to secure a better future for their citizens. They commit to decarbonising their territories, improving their resilience to climate change and reducing energy poverty. This transition to a greener and fairer future goes beyond the management of public buildings, public infrastructures or public transport and calls for a deep change in the role local politicians and administrations engage their citizens.
This live chat will be an opportunity to connect dots and build bridges between the upcoming European Climate Pact and the possible developments of the Covenant of Mayors movement.
Join the discussion with:
– Sandro Nieto-Silleras, Policy Officer at the European Commission – DG CLIMA in charge of the European Climate Pact and the Covenant of Mayors in Europe
– Katrien Rycken, Coordinator of Leuven 2030, a non-profit organisation representing all players of the society and whose goal is a “climate-neutral, resilient and liveable Leuven”.
Hosted by Frédéric Boyer, Energy Cities – Project Management, Head of the Covenant of Mayors – Europe Office.
