The imminent threat of climate change, together with the loss of ecosystems and biodiversity and the mounting cost of living crisis due to escalating fossil fuel prices, underscores the critical importance of respecting the Member States’ National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs). These plans must serve as essential strategic instruments, guiding national-level decarbonisation efforts in alignment with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target, with the objective of diminishing reliance on fossil fuels and facilitating a rapid and just transition toward the clean economy of the future.
EU Member States are mandated to comprehensively detail their national climate and energy targets, accompanied by relevant policies, measures, and funding until 2030. However, the present NECPs are significantly inadequate for their intended purpose, necessitating substantial strengthening, increased comprehensiveness, and a robust foundation rooted in data and participatory processes.
This REDI4HEAT online webinar will showcase our findings, specifically identifying barriers hindering the implementation of Heating and Cooling (H&C) measures. Additionally, they will present relevant case studies that shed light on effective strategies and potential solutions to overcome these barriers. Through this event they aspire to contribute valuable insights and foster dialogue for more robust and impactful climate action.
