Soils, a coveted, limited resource to be protected: what are the challenges for the socio-ecological transition of local authorities?
In the era of climate change, open spaces and natural areas provide important ecosystem services, including carbon storage, water absorption and storage, and biodiversity conservation. Soils also contribute to the quality of life of citizens, for example by reducing heat island phenomena. Their preservation and occupation is a fundamental issue for adaptation to climate change. It is therefore essential to use soils sparingly and to limit their sealing to make our cities liveable and more resistant to the consequences of climate change. At the same time, local authorities need these areas to fulfil their social and urban development missions, such as the construction of affordable housing or schools. However, land is a highly coveted resource due to the rise in land prices, the lack of resources of local authorities and the pressure on the housing market. These are all challenges that local authorities are facing.
During these two days, we will discuss with experts and representatives of local authorities the policies of land artificialisation at the European, French and German levels. Find the program here !
