This webinar by the Transnational Institute (TNI) & Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE) and in collaboration with Transformative Cities coalition, focuses on the following transformative energy proposals and practices – from the local, regional & national level.

Eskom Transformed – South Africa: This proposal, driven by civil society and trade unions, is about transforming South Africa’s electricity utility, Eskom, into a ‘New Eskom’ that is fully public and people serving by securing a democratic and just energy transition and fulfilling the promise of socially owned renewable energy. aidc.org.za/eskom-transformed-full-report/

Morwell – Australia: For 22 years Earthworker Cooperative has brought the environment/climate movement together with the labour movement to build cooperatives that enable communities to find ways out of the climate emergency. Today it successfully runs manufacturing and other energy, water, transport, and land care cooperatives. transformativecities.org/atlas/atlas-36/

Walhi, Friends of the Earth – Indonesia: We fight with communities against harmful coal power and big hydro. Our vision for energy democracy and people’s sovereignty is rural and forest dependent communities should be able to manage forests as well as water for small scale hydro themselves. http://walhi.or.id/index.php/urging-for-a-just-and-sovereign-energy-transition-for-climate-justice-report/
