Get ready to #ShowShareShake

Discover the Cities & Citizens Energy Forum’s side events!

Last week, we opened registration to our annual conference, the first Cities & Citizens Energy Forum.

As you know, this year Energy Cities will celebrate its 30 year anniversary. That’s why we want to offer you more than a simple conference!

During the 3 days, we will #ShowShareShake:

  • SHOW the progress, the potential, the diversity of local energy initiatives
  • SHARE solutions, failures, need for new policies and legal frameworks
  • SHAKE the business as usual agenda, the EU agenda, and our own way of thinking!

Many interesting events will take place in Heerlen in the same week and will be organised in the framework of the Forum. Here a first selection:

Greening our cities with district energy

Conference and capacity building workshop on how to foster the rollout of 4th and 5th generation district heating and cooling systems

Wednesday 22 April, 9:00 – 17:00

Join this event if you want to learn about district heating and cooling from more than 15 pilot cases across Europe!

Decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector is a major challenge to reach carbon neutrality in a near future. One solution is to provide renewable and low carbon heat thanks to district energy. The most advanced 4th and 5th generation district heating and cooling (DHC) systems run at low temperature, allowing less heat loss through pipes, and the use of local heat sources. This means less CO2 emissions and the development of greener local economy.

Despite these advantages, the use of district energy remains low across European countries, especially in the North-West area. However, cities in collaboration with citizens, policy makers and companies can meet the challenge and overcome the policy and organizational barriers to the rollout of this innovative technology.

Developing attractive home-renovation service packages for homeowners

Conference and capacity-building workshop on one-stop-shops

Wednesday 22 April 2020, 9:00-17:00

Join this event if you want to launch your city’s one-stop-shop!

The residential sector remains one of the most energy intensive ones. If national and local authorities want to achieve their ambitious energy and climate targets, they have to support citizens pro-actively in launching retrofits.

Learn from the local authorities and private sector experts from 11 European places who have developed attractive home renovation service packages for homeowners, offered conveniently in one location – a “one-stop-shop”.

Each country and region are special. Therefore, each one-stop-shop is different. During this one-day event, experts will share their mistakes and successes, results and recommendations with those who want to set up a one-stop shop.

Hotmaps: a new software to support energy planning

Training sessions on how to use the Hotmaps toolbox for strategic heating and cooling planning

Wednesday 22 April, from 9:00 to 13:00 & from 14:00 to 17:00

Join this event if you want to make your city’s energy planning faster and better!

Hotmaps is an online software and database to support energy planning at all levels. It allows you to find out preliminary information on an area of interest and start developing heating and cooling strategies. Seven Energy Cities’ members already tested it and contributed to its development and further improvement in the past 3 years. Hotmaps can be used online, without installing any other software on your computer. It’s free and includes manuals and support materials in different languages. The training will allow you to test it with the support of the Hotmaps’ project team.
