In 2019, the European Commission launched its flagship initiative, the European Green Deal, to make the EU the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy.
Five years later, and a few days before the EU elections, where do we stand?
On June 3rd, Energy Cities and Eurocities organised a webinar to take stock of the initiative. We gave participants the opportunity to get an overview of the joint publication “Cities in the European Green Deal – Opportunities and Responsibilities” . We presented some key legislative files of the Green Deal and assessed their impact at the local level. We also heard the perspective of the City of Ghent and reflected on the next EU Commission’s mandate and the challenges ahead.
