Learn how to develop bankable projects to finance your transition

New e-learning course on the Local Transitions Learning Centre: Financing Schemes and Enablers for energy transition

How to transform your city’s climate goals into serious, bankable projects to successfully finance your local transition?

Achieving climate neutrality at the local level requires solid financial planning, well-structured project design, and a clear understanding of available funding opportunities

The new and free Financing Schemes and Enablers for energy transition e-learning course is designed to support public authorities like you in navigating the financial dimension of decarbonisation, helping them transform climate goals into realistic, financially credible projects.

Hosted on the Local Transitions Learning Centre, this course will guide you step by step through the key components of financial sustainability and feasibility.

From fundamental principles to project assessment

The course requires around 2 hours to complete, and you can do it at your own pace. It is structured into three main sections:

  1. You will explore the fundamental principles behind developing a strong and credible project proposal, with a focus on aligning technical, environmental, and financial aspects.
  2. You will learn practical approaches to assess the financial readiness of a project idea, enabling you to identify gaps, evaluate risks, and strengthen your proposals before seeking funding.
  3. You will gain an overview of the most commonly used financing schemes and enablers that can support decarbonisation actions at the local level, including both public and private ones.

More than just a course – be part of the Prospect Learning Community

By enrolling in this course, you will also become a member of the Prospect Learning Community, a great opportunity to:

  • Have access to a series of lessons and activities developed by EURAC Research to help you build the fundamental skills needed to design and implement financially feasible and impactful projects.
  • Join webinars on policy and replication issues, as well as extra peer-to-peer learning activities.

Additionally, the successful completion of the course will make you eligible for the Prospect Peer-learning Programme, the second step in the Prospect Capacity-Building Programme, where small groups of around five participants, guided by a mentor, gather to focus on a specific financing scheme or enabler and enjoy a study visit.

“Financing Schemes and Enablers” is the first level of the PROSPECT Capacity-Building Programme. This EU-funded project supports local and regional authorities (LRAs) in developing and financing sustainable energy and climate projects. It helps public authorities build the skills needed to mobilise private capital through innovative financing schemes and enabling structures.
