NetZeroCities has recently launched the Online Discussion Groups : for cities from European and Associated countries to connect and exchange knowledge with Mission Cities, on concrete climate actions around five thematic areas: Built Environment, Nature-based-Solutions, sustainable Mobility, Energy and Circular Economy! Cities that are part of these groups, will have the opportunity to apply and join group study visits in spring 2025, with the travel costs covered by NetZeroCities!
As part of these Online Discussion Groups, NetZeroCities is hosting five online thematic sessions for cities beyond 112 Mission Cities! Join the upcoming online thematic sessions with labelled Mission Cities that received the Mission label by the European Commission. These Mission Cities are now transitioning into the implementation phase of their ambitious climate actions.
These sessions will feature:
You can join as many online thematic sessions as you find relevant to your city’s climate priority areas:
Built Environment – Tuesday, 03 December 2024; 11:00 – 12:30 CET
Urban design and sustainable construction to decarbonise cities. The Cities Mission supports energy efficient buildings, green infrastructure and sustainable planning to reduce energy demand and create healthier, more inclusive spaces, in line with the New European Bauhaus initiative. Mission City of Guimarães will present its climate action, including the implementation of NZEB procurement for public buildings.
Decarbonising the energy sector, by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy. Through Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs), cities
are transitioning to cleaner energy, reducing emissions from buildings and industry, while enhancing climate resilience. Mission cities of Mannheim, Leuven and Valencia will present their climate actions, including the implementation of their local heat plans, installation of energy communities and the decarbonisation of district heating networks.
Essential measures to tackle urban heat, manage stormwater and restore biodiversity. By integrating green spaces, urban forests and wetland restoration into urban planning, these solutions leverage natural systems to increase climate resilience and improve urban liveability. Mission Cities of Lahti and Leuven will showcase climate actions, including carbon sinks and climate adaptation projects.
Minimising waste by designing processes where waste becomes a resource. This approach improves resource efficiency, reduces environmental impact and promotes local economic opportunities by rethinking sustainable resource management in cities. Mission Cities of Aarhus and Umeå will present their circular economy actions, including a local marketplace for circular construction.
Sustainable movement of people and goods within cities to reduce emissions and promote environmental sustainability. Mission Cities of Stockholm and Aachen will showcase their climate actions, such as congestion charges, low-emission zones, and electromobility advancements.
