While the new European Green Deal proposed by the European Commission is aimed at answering their call, European cities and regions have already taken action to curb carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
Yet, European cities have been using EU, national, regional and local funds to finance their Covenant action plans, and have also been mobilising citizens finance to get support local projects. In the current context and the fight to Covid-19, additional funding and investments are needed.
