Whatis community energy? What are the local benefits? How can a municipality support its setup?
Energy Cities’ Espresso training is here to help civil servants in municipalities all over Europe to deepen their understanding of community energy. You will acquire new knowledge on key topics in the energy community field, including:
- Introduction: what can cities do around community energy
- Financing and co-investment
- Communication and facilitating dialogues
- Giving access to municipal assets
- Public procurement.
The course runs several times a year in different languages. Extra languages are planned and a train-the-trainers course will soon be out.
The course is part of the Europe’s first community energy accreditation scheme for local authorities, a first step to becoming a community energy leader.

This course uses an active learning approach to familiarise you with modelling tools – especially the European City Calculator. You will learn to:
- Assess the strengths and limitations of modelling tools
- Understand how the EU City Calculator can support your city’s climate neutrality strategy
- Identify the skills and resources required to adopt the tool
- Align local, national and EU policies using the Calculator
Recently updated under SPARKLE, the EU City Calculator is free to use and can now integrate your Sustainable Energy Climate Action Plan (SECAP) data automatically. Integrate your city’s data, engage local stakeholders, and make effective policy choices.
